Turkish Rom dance, popularized in the Sulukule section of Istanbul, is synonymous with the exciting 9/8 rhythm and exuberant steps, and known as Karsilama. A lively, energetic dance, it is characterized with spins, hops, and little jumps. The dancer makes rhythmic use of her voluminous skirt and uses hand gestures imitating the coffee grinder, a staple of Turkish life.

This fast-paced Turkish Rom tambourine dance in 4/4 time incorporates many steps from traditional Turkish folk dances, especially evident in the rocking steps of the tamsara.
